SPINAL ARACHNOIDITIS
ITS AN NON SPECIFIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE OF THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE WHICH IS CHARACTERISED PATHOLOGICALY BY THICKENING PF THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE.
CAUSES:
  1. SURGICAL PROCEDURE LIKE LEMINECTOMY,DISCECTOMY,SPINAL INFUSION,RHIZOTOMY
  2. INJECTED AGENTS LIKE SPINAL ANESTHESIA
  3. SPACE OCCUPYING LESION
  4. INFECTIONS LIKE TUBERCULOSIS AND SYPHILIS
  5. INTRATHECAL HEMORRHAGE
INFLAMMATORY CHANGES IN THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE CAUSES HYPERAMIA.
CLINICAL FEATURES:
  • USUALLY SEEN IN 40 TO 60 YEARS OF AGE 
  • PAIN
  • PARESTHESIA
  • SENSORY LOSS
  • MUSCLE WEAKNESS
SIGNS:
  • TENDERNESS
  • PARASPINAL MUSCLE SPASM
  • SCOLIOSIS
  • AREFLEXIA
  • SPHINCTER DISTURBANCES
PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT:
  1. MOIST HEAT MAINLY FOR REDUCING MUSCLE SPASM
  2. IN CASE OF RADIATING PAIN PATIENTS MAY BE TREATED WITH TENS.
  3. LASER MAY BE USED TO REDUCED INFLAMMATION
  4. SLR
  5. DYNAMIC EXERCISES
  6. ACTIVE EXERCISES
