SHOULDER DISLOCATION
SHOULDER JOINT IS VULNERABLE FOR5 DISLOCATION MORE OFTEN THAN ANY OTHER  JOINT IN THE BODY.
ANTERIOR DISLOCATION OF SHOULDER
MECHANISM OF INJURY:
  • FALL ON OUTSTRETCHED HANDS
  • DIRECT BLOW ON THE POSTERIOR ASPECT OF THE SHOULDER.
TYPES:
  • SUBCORACOID
  • SUBGLENOID
  • INFRACLAVICULAR
  • INTRATHORACIC
CLINICAL FEATURES:
SEVERE PAIN AND ARM IS HELD IN ABDUCTION AND EXTERNAL ROTATION.
TREATMENT:
CLOSED REDUCTION UNDER GA USING THE KOCHER'S METHOD OF REDUCTION IS THE TREATMENT OF CHOICE.
PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT:
INITIAL 3 WEEKS: ITS A PHASEOF IMMOBILISATION.
AFTER 3 WEEKS:THE STRAPPING IS IS REMOVED AND THE LIMB IS SUPPORTED IN SLING.
PENDULUM EXTERCISES
FLLEXION EXTENSION MOVEMENTS
EXTREME DEGREE OF CAUTION IS REQUIRED FOR ABDUCTION AND EXTERNAL ROTATION MOVEMENTS.
